The Haircare Edit: Olaplex No.3 Review

Okay, I caved in.

After seeing Olaplex everywhere over the past few months, I finally decided to get my hands on it and try it out to see what all the hype was about.

Recently I've found that my hair is much dryer and damaged than usual which I suspect is because of the drastic change in the weather (can we please talk about how absolutely FREEZING it is now!) and the hairstyles I've been wearing recently, so I purchased the Olaplex No.3 Bond Maintenance Hair Perfecter to see if it lives up to it's name and if it could really help save my hair.

You apply this treatment to damp hair for around 15 minutes before shampooing and conditioning and it is said to rebuild and strengthen the protein bonds in your hair - perfect if you bleach, dye or straighten your hair a lot. As I've mentioned in previous posts and videos, I used to straighten my hair near enough every single day for around 9 years before I made the transition to my natural curls. Safe to say my hair was extremely dry and damaged and still is slightly to this day as I decided not to do a big chop, so getting my hands on miracle in a bottle to help the health of my hair sounded like a no brainer.

So is it worth it? Let me explain in one word: Wow.

I've used this treatment twice now. After the first application my hair felt soft after washing but I didn't notice much difference in the strength and condition of my hair. However, after the second application my hair was noticeably much more shinier, softer and I experienced a lot less fizz than usual (a curly girls dream!) I believe the more you use this treatment, the better and healthier your hair will become, however due to it's strength, it is important to not use it too often as doing so could actually lead to reverse desired effects.

The only downside to the product? This stuff isn't cheap. I picked up an 100ml bottle for £26 from Selfridges and after 2 applications I only have around half of the product left. I have quite long hair so if yours is similar, you can expect 4 applications from this size bottle. Obviously if you have shorter hair you will use less product and therefore it will last longer. Saying that, it's not cheap for a reason. You're paying for a quality product like no other, so it's definitely worth investing in.

Brb, off to buy some more!

Have you ever tried any Olaplex products?

  1. So glad to hear that this has worked for you! I've never tried olaplex, but I've heard plenty of good things. It's a shame about the price and how little product you get for that price xx
