For years people have raved about the benefits of having a 20
step skincare routine. Cleansers, scrubs, oils, moisturisers, mists, creams,
toners, your neighbours cat. We've essentially be told "the more the
better." Why? So skincare brands can sell you more products that you
probably don't need. Yes, I said it.
Don't get me wrong, each of the above do have their
benefits, maybe not the neighbours cat, but this year there's
been a huge rise in 'skinimalism' - minimalism for the skin which focuses on
stripped back skincare with a more natural focus.
You can say I've been doing skinimalism for a while now,
partly because I'm lazy and partly because I’ve found that my skin truly looks
its best when I don’t lather layers and layers of product on it.
Because of this I've found some gems when it comes to natural skincare, so
if you're wanting to shift your routine to a skinimalism focus, here are some
of my favourites!
The Ordinary Vitamin C Suspension
If you're someone who suffers a lot from breakouts and
scaring, vitamin C is your best friend! Vitamin C helps to brighten the skin
and fade pigmentation by impeding melanin production which can help fade dark
spots and achieve a more even complexion. If you don't suffer from
hyperpigmentation or scarring, Vitamin C is also great for anti-aging - it's a
wonder vitamin! Because the formula of this product is quite oily, I only apply
this just before I go to bed - but be warned if you have white bedsheets,
sometimes it can leave a slight orange tinting on fabric!
Doctor Botanicals Hemp Infused Moisturiser
Hand down this is the best moisturiser I have ever used. The end.
I was kindly gifted this product back in 2019 from Dr
Botanicals and I was quite sceptical about how well it would work. Around that
time, hemp infused beauty products were starting to make a breakthrough so
part of me though it was just another hype which wouldn't live up to
expectation. From the first time trying it though, I was instantly hooked. The
product absorbs into the skin quickly and also slightly tightens the skin which
makes me certain that it's tightening my pores. I don't use this
moisturiser religiously because I don't want my skin to get used to it because
it works so well, so when my skin needs a pick me up or if I have something
important to go to the next day, I always make sure to use this the night
before. It's literally my little skincare holy grail.
The Organic Pharmacy Carrot Butter Cleaner
One day I was feeling bougie in Selfridges and I decided
to buy this £43 cleaner from The Organic Pharmacy to give it a go...I don't
know who I thought I was. The investment definitely paid off though
because I love taking my makeup off with this in the evenings. Carrot butter
leaves the skin feeling soft and looking radiant and I always find that I wake
up with glowing skin in the mornings after using this. I wrote a whole review of this product, so if
you want to know more, make sure you give that a read!
Beauty Pro Moisturising Serum
Because I have combination skin, sometimes it’s left feeling
much feeling dryer than usual and when it does, this the moisturiser I like to
use. The consistency of this formula really helps add an extra boost
of moisture and helps waken up my skin when it's looking dull and
tired. The only thing to note with this product is that it's very oily and
takes a while to absorb into the skin, so I'd definitely only
recommend this for people who suffer with dry skin
and whose skin really needs the extra moisture.
When it comes to skincare are you more or a minimalist or do
you enjoy a rigorous regime? Let me know in the comments!
